Taste of the Coulee Region Exhibit

So I was invited to be one of the exhibitors at the "Taste of the Coulee Region" for 2013 in La Crosse on May 30th. I was so honored to be asked and of course said yes!

I've had a couple of months to work on some things and get ready for this really cool event, but I haven't been producing much until now. I always seem to work better under pressure and when there is a time crunch. Some would say, "Why did you wait until the last minute?" I don't know is the answer....it's just what I do and then it comes to me.

Suddenly, I have an out pour of inspiration and start producing work that consumes me. At times I am so wrapped up and passionate about what I am creating that I simply forget to eat...or oh wait, it's 3 in the morning? Everything else disappears except for me and my work...watercolor, acrylic, charcoal....sometimes all of them in one. I test the limits of the materials and work in layers. I play with textures, but let the history show through as I work. It is a process that I enjoy.

And finally there is that moment where I realize I made something great...because it consumed me. The other day I saw something that read, "Find your happy."

This is my happy...

SOLD

All of these new works will most likely make the exhibit at the "Taste of the Coulee Region" for purchase. Please contact me if you are interested in any of these works.

Thanks for looking!

Dabble into Photography

So I have been taking on the challenge of adding photography as another medium in my world of art. I decided to get a nice DSLR camera once my daughter was born and teach myself how to use it. I watched tutorials and read  a lot about camera settings. I practiced and practiced. I was excited to get some nice pictures of my daughter without paying a fortune to get them.

All of the sudden, everyone around me was having babies and I immediately asked if I could practice some newborn photos of a couple babies. WOW....was it fun! I was excited to find cuddly fabrics, blankets, and other props to make my "photo shoots" more interesting. It was fun to come and shoot photos in the comfort of their home. I also got to spend some cuddle time with those little cuties!

Needless to say, I LOVE photography and want to dive into it even more. I still have a lot to learn but I am enjoying the process. Here are a few photos that I've taken...
