March Portrait

So here is the portrait that I have been working on for the past few weeks. I could sit and tweak this portrait probably for another month, but sometimes you just have to let things be. I decided today that it was done. I matted, framed, and wrapped up the work.

I put it in a box for this friend, who is completely unaware that I drew a portrait of her two boys... I hope she enjoys the surprise. Her husband was very sweet to help me out with such a task of finding the perfect pic to work from.

She is someone who was there when I needed advice or to listen to me unravel as my world fell apart. Life can sometimes be a roller coaster of emotions and events that shake up everything you thought you knew and change you completely. When your world falls apart, it's the compassion of others that helps you get through. If you are lucky, you can gain some perspective from these events and find out what matters most. For me, I have been fortunate enough to find those people.

So.......here is something nice for someone nice :)

March Art

Spring is in the air.......right? Oh, please agree with me. I would like to shake this winter away already.

I have been trying to prepare for an exhibit event at the end of May. I was invited to show and sell my art at "The Taste of the Coulee Region" in La Crosse this year. I am honored and excited to take part, but even a little more  nervous because I don't know what to expect.

Because my art is all over the place at times, I'm not sure what I will bring. I have been thinking that I might bring a variety of different types of art. From small mixed media to large abstract works, hopefully I will find that perfect buyer who enjoys my work. If anything, I like to see the reactions to my work when people look at it.

Here are my latest mixed media works that I was fortunate to work on during my weekend and snow day.

"Poppies"
Mixed Media on Paper

"Monarch"
Mixed Media on Paper

"Blue Pansy"
Mixed Media on Paper

I am also currently working on a charcoal portrait for a friend. I am getting to the point where is it so close to being complete but a couple things are still not right and I won't be satisfied until it is right. I will post the finished portrait soon....stay tuned.
